Scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services

The FRQNT joins the ERA-NET BiodivERsA and Belmont Forum to launch a call for proposals to fund international research proposals on scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services. 25 national/regional funding organisations from 23 countries are joining this call co-funded by the European Commission and the following members’ countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil (State of Sao Paulo), Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States of America.

The loss of biodiversity and the deterioration of ecological services or "ecosystemic services" are increasing at an unprecedented rate on both the European and global scale. This damage is impacting not just the natural world but human society as a whole. Financial support to the sciences related to biodiversity scientific questions should therefore provide a mean towards new answers for major societal and global problems.

The aim of this new call for proposals is to support the development of international collaborative projects addressing the theme on scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Scientific teams are invited to form international consortia comprising research groups from at least three countries participating in the call. Proposals should also clearly demonstrate the added value linked to the international nature of the projects and to the level of collaboration between teams from different countries.

Consortia should involve at least two teams from two different EU Member States or H2020 Associated Countries to be eligible for EC funding (here: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey).

To be eligible for FRQNT funding, a team must have researchers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering who are themselves eligible for FRQNT funding. The team may also include researchers in the social sciences (see Subject Matter Eligibility)

Together with the European Commission, an overall budget of ca. €25M has been provisionally reserved.

Proposals will be evaluated according to criteria of scientific excellence, policy relevance and societal impact (which includes stakeholder engagement), and quality and efficiency of the project implementation.

We invite you to regularly consult the BiodivERsA and Belmont Forum websites, on which you will find all updated information about the call.

Whilst applications will be submitted jointly by research Partners from several countries, individual partners will be funded by the funding organisation of their country/region. Applicants from Québec are therefore subject to the FRQNT eligibility criteria and funding of Québec applicants will be regulated according to the FRQNT rules.
